Alina Schiau (b. 1980, Romania) is a French-Swiss artist based near Paris, France.
At the age of three, she and her family fled the Ceaușescu dictatorship and found refuge in Switzerland. Growing up between cultures, languages and histories shaped a particular sensitivity to questions of identity, transmission and belonging.
Since dedicating herself fully to painting in 2019, Schiau has developed a practice that explores the invisible realities that inhabit us and continue to shape our lives. Her work investigates memory, absence, transmission, inner landscapes and the traces left by personal and collective experiences.
Working across painting, installation and immersive experiences, she seeks to make perceptible what often remains unseen: the emotions, stories and inherited memories that continue to live within us.
Rather than providing answers, her work opens spaces for reflection and resonance, inviting viewers to reconnect with their own histories, perceptions and inner worlds.
Her work is represented by ACID Gallery (Lille) and Galerie Partage (Lyon).
